Distant thunder in the evening.
I recorded this file at about 10:00PM, from the terrace of a house located at Santa Monica Heights, which is a costal residential area near Calapan city (oriental Mindoro, Philippines).
One can hear the evening atmosphere of this place : insects, distant noises like traffic hum, voices, people singing (probably in a party or with karaoke), people walking in the street or eating dinner at home, dogs barking, and above all, some far thunder rolls, announcing a thunderstorm coming later in the night.
Recorded in August 2025 with an Olympus LS-P4 and a Rode Stereo videomic X (SVMX).
Fade in/out applied in Audacity.

Yes, indeed, recording thunderstorms can be a bit tricky sometimes ! ;-)

I find thunder to be quite a challenge.
We rarely get it around here, and then when we do it's difficult to figure the right microphone/level/damper/etc configuration.
Last time I used my EM272M'S hiding behind a window gap, which still turned out to be a bad choice because they bottomed out and distorted for most of it.
A couple of days later I came across a beautiful thunder recording by George Vlad, who apparently had also used a pair of clippy mic's.
I asked him how he managed to get such a clear and stable recording, to which he replied "You didn't get to hear all the other stuff".
Fair comment.

Thanks Colin !
Actually, my expectations were quite high about these distant thunder-rolls, as tropical thunderstorms might be very impressive at times !
