It was sightly cheaper than a Speak'n'Spell - http://tinyurl.com/4wbh26 - and there was a pot clamped on the back but the pitch changes actually needed a variable capacitor - for which i used my finger!

The whole pack you uploaded here is great! I can imagine a speak-n-spell like device with the back off and wires going in all directions to ad-hock solder-points and pots :)
