Algastunnelen on the E6, 3400m length, 40km before Alta, Finnmark Norway
This is a series of very special recordings. I recorded the sound of 4 road tunnels in northern Norway from the perspective of a cyclist. I mounted an EARSIGHT BINAURAL Stereo mic set on the left and right behind my rear wheel bike bags and recorded with a Zoom F3 recorder. The tunnel tube acts like an amplifier and when a car is passing by it is insanely loud. This is very scary for a cyclist.
At some points the audio cuts out briefly. I don't know exactly what happened, but my theory is that some vehicles created a strong vortex of air when overtaking, which sucked the air away from the microphone for a moment. The microphones basically lost all air and without air there is no sound.
Put on your headphones and turn up the volume until it hurts slightly then you have the right feeling.
