A recording of a Eurasian hoopoe. A beautiful looking bird, if you can catch a glimpse of it as it is a little shy. This one took up residence for a few weeks beside where I was living in southern France.
I found its three-note call curious; either reminiscent of a message alert or an alarm clock.
I made this recording using a parabolic dish with a Sennheiser MKH 8020 at its centre. I tried to get closer to minimise the sounds of sparrows and starlings, but it flew away.
