A recording of a several scops owls, one close by, and several others more distant. The recording was made on the island of Crete in the middle of the night using a pair of Primo EM272s.
The melodic shape of the hoots of all owls are similar but are offset across a range of a few semitones. During a series of hoots, individual hoots are spaced about five seconds apart. Scops owls are small, often heard in rural areas of Crete but are rarely seen.
Also captured in the recording are various nocturnal insects, bells on sheep or goats and occasional dog barks.
