I wanted a notification alert sound for SMS text messages from delivery service apps for local stores/shops. I chose this because it's a clean, pure sound even though it's probably not from an authentic scanner. I changed its pitch in Audacity (or Tenacity) to 865 Hz which approximates the spectrum plots[1][2] of some of the field recordings, found here on freesound, of beeps of barcode scanners at conveyor belt checkouts of grocery supermarkets in Europe and the US. A few other field recordings on freesound from Europe and the US have lower frequencies.
For reference, the ones in Japan, Asia, recorded by Taira Komori are about 817 Hz. The beeps of _handheld_ scanners in a convenience store (コンビニ, konbini) in Japan recorded by Taira Komori are about 4322 Hz. A high-quality beep of a handheld scanner has a texture similar to zerolagtime's "Store Scanner Beep" (id 144418).
