This recording is Waltz LXII, an inspired piece of John Cages’ “A Dip in the Lake” Due to COVID-19 this piece was transcribed from Chicago, IL to Port Chester, NY. This piece was recorded from Memorial Park to the Port Chester Post Office to Port Chester’s ‘Waterfront’. In this piece you can hear the sounds of a small town at the beginnings of a quarantine. More specific sounds that can be heard are the melodies of music passing in front of small shops (02:17), and a skateboard rolling down a hill (02:35). For this piece I wanted the listener to visualize a small town slowly shutting down yet still using music to create an enjoyable day.
