Years later, I have discovered that this was technically not a gong I recorded but rather a tam tam, which is similar. Recorded with the M-Audio Microtrack II using Sound Professionals SP-TFB-2 in-ear binaural microphones. I placed my head front center about 18 inches from the instrument.
