Years later, I have discovered that this was technically not a gong I recorded but rather a tam tam, which is similar. The instrument is 22" wide, is made of bronze, and was manufactured in the early 1990s by Rancan by LP. I was standing about 1 foot from it using an M-Audio Microtrak II.

I'd like to use this sound in a Google Code hosted project, but they only allow CC BY 3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/) and CC BY-SA 3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/) - would you be willing to re-license?
