Binaural recording of Pine forest ambiance, with birds singing (and fluttering near the mics!), wind on trees, and buzzing insects. Between 1 min and 1:30 an airplane overheads. This was done with a pair of Soundman OKM mics (covered with a DIY wind screen) placed at each side of a tree trunk, and plugged into an iRiver H120 recorder. The rig was then left unattended. The 16-bit original was high-pass filtered and most hiss from mics removed. Uncompressed sample also available (20071104.forest.04.binaural.wav). Great stereo image and presence, my favourite forest sample ever.

I've been listening to this recording for a few days now. I find it rich, complex, immensely crisp. I get a real sense of dimension. This is a very relaxing tableau of sounds to have playing while reading, writing, or studying. I actually fell asleep listening to the recording last night. I had it looping. Made for some pleasant dreaming. The length is good, so that even repeating it doesn't seem to repetitious. I would love to have a full hour recording like this.
