I was recording a wall-clock to make some mic preamp comparisons and thought I may as well post one of the files on Freesound. Recording chain: Rode NT1-A microphone - Edirol R44 (digital recorder @ 24 bit, 44.1 kHz converted to 16 bit).

This is a beautiful recording. No hiss/fuzz. Minimal background noise as compared to some other samples. Good job!

The preamp section is nice, the R44 headphone amplifier is astoundingly quiet, audiophile quality, but the R44 pres are no match for the MixPre, nor would I expect them to be.

R44 preamps will produce excellent field recordings, but are marginal for quietude settings of distant birds/frogs etc.
