Betnava Forest lies north of Betnava Castle (castle), which is a popular recreational area for residents of nearby residential neighborhoods. Many Maribor residents who are looking for refreshment during the summer months like to go for a walk in the nearby Betnava Forest, which lies south of the city near Nova Vas. The forest was named after the manor house on its horizon. The first owners of the castle were the Counts Betnava (von Winden), after whom the castle was also named. In 1877, the road leading from the castle to the city was also named after them. In 1587, following the Augsburg Agreement on freedom of religion, a Protestant church with a cemetery was built on Betnava. Both were destroyed in 1600 by the Counter-Reformation Commission. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the castle lost its defensive role and later owners converted it into a mansion, pleasant to live in.
