Horns

I downloaded a simple boat horn that user felix.blume had recorded in Istanbul. I was looking to recreate the Cherno Alpha's horn from Pacific rim, since I had just watched the movie and the horns were mainly the reason I had so much interest in it.

I imported his boat horn, and cropped the first horn in the mp3 file he provided, and removed the seagulls in the background by doing a fade-out of the end in audacity. Mind you, I work back and forth from Audacity and FL Studio while creating my sounds, but I mainly work in FL studio.

After I had cropped the boat horn, I added a Fruity Bass Boost filter, both knobs at 100%, I added a Fruity Fast LP filter, created an automation clip for the cutoff which placed itself in the Playlist along with the cropped sound, and I adjusted the wave-curve for it to make the sound vibrate at a reasonable frequency so that the horn wouldn't vibrate faster than its base pitch.

I then exported that, re-imported it and added another Fruity Fast LP filter to make the vibrating sound a little more soft, and assigned the re-imported audio file so that it could be modified by the pitch modifier in fl studio. I created an automation clip for the pitch, and adjusted it to the starting pitch of the Cherno Alpha horn in the movie, and down to the end pitch of it, creating a curve that sounded nifty, and didn't stretch the audio file that much.

Just in case you wondered how I do things. It's not perfect, but it's pretty close. Enjoy!
