Two male voices chanting mono-tonally in presumably Japanese while striking a wood block repeatedly, and occasionally striking a bell. There is very little melodic variation, and a great deal of natural reverb. There are some sounds of the recorder being moved, unfortunately.
The chanting changes from rapid koans to a steady drone about halfway through the recording. Also, sometimes only one priest is chanting. Towards the end of the recording, the prayer becomes more melodic.
Recorded on a Zoom H1N in a temple in Tokyo, Japan, on a rainy day. Edited to slightly reduce the volume of one of the bell hits which was very loud compared to the rest of the recording. Also, the overall volume of the recording was increased, and the start/stop record sounds were trimmed.
