This is the sound of a light rain storm on the Atlantic coast in Castine, Maine. This was recorded during the late evening in mid-July, around 22:00h. The rain is falling onto a wooden porch, and the sound of the water hitting the furniture cushions is predominant. In the background, the rain can be heard falling on other trees and structures in the backyard. Way in the distance, you can hear the slight sound of the ocean, which was relatively calm that night.
This was recorded on a Sony PCM A-10 with a 48 kHz sample rate and in 24 bit. The mics are the A-10’s onboard pair, in an XY configuration. This was recorded from an open window, about 4 meters above the porch.
The weather was cool in the low 20s celsius, humid, still, and raining.
