A south-west gale brings the rain lashing against my bedroom window. MS907 - MZ-N10 - iRiver. Loopable recording. The mic was in front of a large window, placed centrally between two fanlights which I had opened just a crack. 3 Dec 2006. Looks like I'll need ear-plugs tonight!

Handy since it's not all homogeneous.

Okay...mea culpa...the MZ-N10 was the recorder (good of you to show your signal chain- twits like me should read them through before making pinhead comments like the above). Still; it is a very good recording and strong wind is so hard to record.

This was recorded with an iRiver?....I'm impressed, the quality is very good. Isn't there some kind of auto-level control on those things (I've been tempted to try recording on mp3 player/recorders but was wondering just how they handled level control/sometimes auto-levelers can screw up natural or ambient recordings)?

My home town is on a south west facing bit of coast, whence the Atlantic gales come in. It's always a windy place with frequent storms. This one had winds up to 90 mph. I'm not sure I would miss the storms if we moved away!

Nice job! This reminds me of growing up on the Oregon coast. I miss the storms there. We usually had at least one storm with winds up to 100 mph each winter. Someday I hope to visit again and record a storm.
