totally. so much changes depending also on what you hit it with and where you hit it. cymbals are so much more dynamic than they sound.

it's strange...have you ever put your ear up to a cymbal right after you strike it...there's tons different harmonics that go on...the problem with these metal plates is that i have to dangle them, and when i hit them they spin around, creating a leslie cabinet effect

cool. that's what helps the ring sustain so well too i bet. my friend has some neat samples of ringing a bell and holding the mic at a distance, then bringing it in as the bell decays. creates a kind of unaturally long metallic sustain . . .

yeah, i recorded using a bad mic and i put it up too close to it, but what's interesting is that sometimes it sounds like glass breaking, probably more so if you add reverb

i like this one. the clipping may or may not be appeasing to some, but in this particular sample, i personally like it. :-)
