correction - it is not a protest but a festive religious chanting of the God Ayyappa during the peak festival season. Thousands of devotees visit this mountain top deity traveling 100s and sometimes 1000s of km by foot from across India - mainly South.

These aren't protest chants. These are chants in praise of Lord Ayyappa, a deity that Hindus pray to. The chants are 'Swamiye Ayyapo' and 'Ayyappa Sharanam' which are in praise of the said Deity.
