The source of the sound is actually not what one might think, it was actually recorded indoors far away from any actual dirt. I filled a massive bucket with sand and rocks and dug holes in it with a big salad server. Reason for this is that my area is a hotspot for loud clusters of birds and barking dogs. The sound itself is filled with the overturning of sand and rocks to create the illusion of someone digging in a stony environment. For this sound, and a few others on my list, I had to create a small makeshift foley studio in an unused part of my house to escape the loud sounds of suburban society. As with all my sounds, I used the power of the handheld Zoom H6 to record a sound that can be utilized in any project involving digging over rocks.
