Recording of a street Jathilan trance ceremony, made in Jakarta (in huge Merdeka Square [nicknamed Sukarno’s last erection] Indonesia’s equivalent of the Mall in DC-USA), Indonesia. Broken glass is chewed, bloody self-inflicted cuts are made with a big knife and some guy is put into a trance by an MC (dalang) who is all parts magician/charlatan/holy man.
