Peaceful seascape by Ladies' Window, near Boscastle

A hike lunch break close to the Ladies' Window, hearing little myself, while the recorder was peering over the cliff edge and hearing a lovely gentle interaction of sea with rugged cliff bases. As well as the sea, we hear a small fishing boat for a while, and twice hear a tourist speedboat. The frequent quiet and sweet-sounding bird calls are mostly or all from little flocks of linnets, which kept flitting around.

I made this recording on 8 September 2012 during a lunch break between Boscastle and Tintagel, Cornwall, UK.

Advisory

Because of the processing to widen and sharpen the originally atrocious stereo imaging, the sea may sound rather phasey when listened to from certain speaker systems. Therefore high-grade headphones are the best solution.

The Ladies' Window, where nowadays not just 'ladies' pose in that natural arch for photos, but often hordes of common or garden smartphone-toting tourists — albeit with room for only one to maybe three people posing at any one time! The arrow points roughly in the direction of where the recorder was (not at all far). Photo taken just after my lunch break when I'd been making this recording; it was peering over the cliff edge, facing approximately towards the headland of Firebeacon Hill on the left, with a fairly narrow sea inlet between here and there.

Techie stuff
The recorder was Sony PCM-M10, with Rycote Mini Windjammer furry windshield. It was set up on a Hama Mini tripod, which is not just 'mini' but tiny.

Post-recording processing was to apply EQ in Audacity to correct for the muffling effect of the windshield — and then more recently stereo widening / sharpening-up using the VST plugin A1 Stereo Control (160% widening).
