Early spring birdsong in the open woods high up on east side of Salcombe Valley, featuring particularly chiffchaff and robin, with background distant sea sound, which is unduly loud for the modest wave size because of the waves action on shingle beach, making the pebbles roll noisily as they surge forward and then draw back.
I made this recording on 26 March 2014 during a hike from Sidmouth to Beer, Devon, UK. I'd not been expecting to record here, but at the time I had little of chiffchaff in my collection of recordings so far, and here they were doing themselves proud at times.
From just above recorder position during this session (recorder hidden by one of foreground trees), looking back over the valley to Salcombe Hill Cliff; Sidmouth is a little beyond. The recorder was facing the same direction as the camera for this view.
Techie stuff
The recorder was Sony PCM-M10, with Røde DeadKitten furry windshield. It was placed on a Zipshot Mini tripod, which I regard as more 'midi' than 'mini'.
Post-recording processing was to apply EQ in Audacity to correct for the muffling effect of the windshield — and then more recently stereo widening / sharpening-up using the VST plugin A1 Stereo Control (160% widening).
Please remember to give this recording a rating — Thank you!
