Sleep-assist

A great sleep-assist soundscape! Extract from an all-night recording of continuous rain on the night of 23–24 November 2018 from my bedroom window, varying from moderate to heavy, though sounding gentler because this is from second-floor height, and most of the direct rainfall impacts are a way down below and so sound quite gentle. In addition we hear nearer at hand various drippings and the trickling sounds of run-off from roofs in various drainpipes, including one close at hand. A very comforting watery sound!

The midrange-frequency background sound is mostly from the rain on my roof (my flat is top floor), for the rain is heavier than it sounds from the window.

This edited version of the the all-night recording is of quite modest length because this was a Friday night and so there was quite a lot more traffic disturbance, even in the small hours, than I'd have got midweek. Because of that I had to edit out most of the recording — a really tedious task!

Techie stuff:
The recorder was Sony PCM-D100, with two nested custom Windcut furry windshields. It was used on a Velbon Mini tripod, on my bedroom window sill, with window as far open as it would go (it opens vertically, not horizontally, and in that fully-open state it acts as a reasonable rain shield, provided that the wind is reasonably light (or blowing from the other side of the building).

Initial post-recording processing was to use Audacity to apply an EQ curve to compensate for muffling from the furry windshields, plus an additional EQ curve to eliminate an 'alcove resonance' in the bass, which affects every recording made from there.

Please remember to give this recording a rating — Thank you!
