update: I've been playing the sample back to the cat a few days later, and she walked around my laptop (which was standing on a thick cushion in bed) and seemed to be convinced that there was a cat in that strange human metal/glass/cushion-construct. poor thing was entirely confused for an hour or so.
Anybody an idea if cats do recognize their own voice? Or are they as numb about the experience of hearing oneself over loudspeaker as we humans are?
