Two hours early evening (after sunset) marsh wildlife recording in the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge's Stoney Bayou Pools. It's late October 2023 and I've been hearing male Leopard Frogs calling out to mate. Leopard Frogs begin mating in the late fall (October through April-May), unlike most other frogs who mate in the spring and summer. I always think of leopard frogs and Carolina jessamine as one of the first forms of life to remind us each winter that spring always follows winter. This audio features both leopard frogs, an occasional pig frog, moorhens and a few night bird calls along with a steady background ocean breeze and regular bursts of wind through the Sabal palm fronds. Sony PCM recorders, Clippy stereo microphones, waterproofing and wind mitigation accessories. October 2023, Stoney Bayou Pool, SE dike.
