Five hours of quiet, chill frog calls to start then as the hours move closer to midnight the frog call tempo picks up eventually reaching an intense crescendo before calming back to a quiet early A.M. There are a number of frogs calling in the audio recording. Green tree frogs (Hyla cinerea) and Southern Cricket Frogs (Acris gryllus) are the primary advertisers though other frogs, such as the pig frog (Rana grylio) can be also heard. Southern field crickets and mole crickets make up the balance of the background audio. Sony PCM recorder, LOM MikroUsi stereo mics, windbubbles and dry bags, June 2023, set up on the banks of a shallow freshwater pond in a wet pine flatwoods habitat, St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. I am attracted to this recording because of the laid back tempo for much of the night.
