Driving in my car over a bumpy road. (My car is showing its age.) I stop at a railroad crossing with about 10 cars in front of me. Amtrack Texas Eagle passes by going from Fort Worth to Dallas (left to right). It blows its horn as it passes and again as it comes to another crossing further down the tracks. ECM-99 in the back seat of my car - recorded onto SonyMD.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for.

I was recording this for a project that needs interior driving car sounds. The train crossing was a bonus.

How about that. Yeah... there IS a hiss.

Crap... At first I thought it was my car stereo (that I accidentally left on)... I'm sure it's part of it, but I also don't want to completely blame the microphone.

I was lazy and just put the MD into my rack mount system rather than make a direct connection to the computer.

The sound went from MD analog output to Harmon/Kardon router to Mackie Mixer to Extigy encoder to PC to Sound Forge 8... I'm sure it picked up a few noises along the way.

I admit, I should have been more careful.

What made you run your recorder while you were just driving?
Amtrack sound itself is of course good for listening, but yours is from a cabin of a car. Sounds pretty interesting.

It's a little pity that ecm99 has a continual noise around 13000Hz, but sounds tasty.
