Actually, I enjoy watching and listening to the trains. Here comes one now! Generally, I can even sleep through them with the windows open in the summer. I also enjoy the view of the Hudson River! See: http://themightyquinn.deviantart.com/art/First-Light-May-17-2008-86043038
I placed the mics about 15 feet (4.5 m) apart, about five feet (1.5 m) off the ground, in a covered area at ground level which has about an 8 foot (2.4 m) ceiling and is open pm three sides.
