While not literally pulling a sword out of a hilt, metal on metal sounds have been used to exaggerate the effect of drawing a sword for a long time. This recording is of an actual large, decorative, sword over a meter in length, having a small metal cylinder scrape against the blade. This recording slowly works down the blade, and takes about a second to fully "ready" the sword.
