This is the same recording as thunderstorm(1) applied with some compression which sounds more impressive in my opinion. I seems to by that most speakers cannot handle such dynamics without compression.Pls also look for the uncompressed version - thunderstorm.flac

I think you could improve it by adding some rain.

The compressor makes it more impressive but it also influences the rain noise which sounds odd. Maybe you should use a multiband compressor, trying to ignore the higher frequencies in processing.
