Recorded at Marks Dam near Howick, South Africa, using a Zoom F3 and Clippy EM272 setup.
The high-altitude dam is situated on the outskirts of a Mondi forestry area, where it lies in a conservancy on Mount Gilboa along the Karkloof range. The recording was taken under an oak tree at the edge of the dam. The expansive surface area and absence of large trees immediately around the dam meant that the persistent and at times gusty wind generated a steady cascade of waves that broke against the banks.
To remove the effects of the wind, the 96kHz/32-bit source was high-passed at 120Hz, downsampled to 48kHz, and exported to 24-bit via 512-point sinc resampling.
