Everything i record outdoors seems to have at least one plane flying through it. This once bothered me - photographically too. Contrails streaking through sunsets and all that ...
But after our 9/11 attack, where air traffic was grounded for some days. The skies were clear and silent. I remembered thinking, at first - wow - this is what is was like before ...
But then, as the days wore on, the silence became the sound of death. I rejoiced when, once again, I saw a jet in the air with it's tail streaming behind.
My Cicada recordings were made in what most would call "way out in the country" about 30 miles from Cincinnati. 30 miles is but a few steps for aircraft. A neighborhood farmer has his own airstrip and hosts model plane clubs and a number of ultra light aircraft. I'll have to record them sooner or later.
I have come to embrace aircraft as an integral element of the natural anvironment. Kind of like loving a naughty child ...
