You are absolutely right. It's indeed a Jungle Owlet. I am impressed by your keen ears and knowledge. On Xeno-Canto I have a better recording of the same bird. I didn't give the bird names here for two reasons - a. freesound is not really a bird vocalisation site. It's more into the sound than the species making the sound. b. I am not too good with birds of Western Ghats.
If you have been able to identify any other sound, other than the Malabar Pied Hornbill please let me know. I also invite you to please listen to my bird call recordings on XC, if you are interested.

It would be nice if you also mention some of the more prominent bird calls. I think Jungle Owlet is one of them...cheers and thanks!
