That's a good point. There seem to be arguments for and against.
I suppose it depends on the end purpose.
Many of my older recordings had a short beep at the beginning and end. Not sure what I was thinking when I did that. Go figure. But it sounds horrible, so I soon changed that method of approach.
As a stand-alone thing is nice to have fades. But I can understand how hard starts and stops would be welcome on functional level.

Would be great as background sound for a film or video, but the fade-in and fade-out make some parts less usable. My brother, who is a professional filmmaker, doesn't allow me to use fades. ;-)

Funny thing; a builder started up a Stihl saw to cut some slabs shortly after I hit the record button.
That's why it's only just over a minute long.
Not so calm after that.
I would've continued, but that's really not a nice sound for me.
