This is a female and male alligator mating pair. The "snoring" bellow that is quieter and comes first is the female. The "loud belching" bellow that is accompanied by water-shaking upward from the alligator's slightly-submerged back is the male. There are several of each, they take turns, although the male gets in the last "word." This pair lives in SW Florida at the Calusa Nature Center. Credit: Calusa Nature Center Planetarium
