What sound card are you using? If It's SoundBlaster or Similiar, "Synth Bass 1" (Patch 39, 1-based) is a great one. A Yamaha CX-80 synth does a nice one that was used on the 1980-1987 Doctor Who Theme, although I don't know which instrument patch.
