Hello,

I need a replacement for this sound. (Mono, 1.22s, 22100Hz, .wav, 28K).

It is a racing car engine loop.

We at Trigger Rally are trying to replace the sounds we use, as their license is not clear.

I was not able to find a suitable replacement on FreeSound, SoundBible and OpenGameArt. Unfortunately I also failed at creating a good-sounding engine loop from the non-looping recordings that I found. Seeing that there are hardly any sounds around, I imagine it's a hard task to do right.

I would need permission to use the sound under the GPL (CC0 is fine too though).

I went through my sound library again and noticed that two sounds actually have something of the desired outcome...

This electric device loop sounds right, but lacks a lot of power. I added a defect gfx card fan motor on top and got this weak toy car engine.

Perhaps somebody else would be more successful at mixing these sounds? Give it a try! smile

Hi qubodub,

Check my sounds, maybe there is something you can work with.
I have a few recordings of a racecar and made them myself, free to use for everyone.

Thanks, I actually did that already because I was able to find them in the search and the license matches, but I'm not skilled enough to make use of the recordings, as the ones I tried so far don't have an engine sound that is "constant" for 1 second at least. I'll take another look!

Maybe I can make a new recording?
Can you tell me what kind of sound you want, low or high rpm.
Old or new type of engine, turbo or not.
And how fast do you need it?

That would be too kind. I don't know the specs I'm afraid. All I know is that it has to replace this sound and that the cars in Trigger Rally are the following:

  • Seat Cordoba WRC
  • Mitsubishi Evolution VIII
  • Ford Focus
Perhaps this gives some info about engine type?

It would be ideal if we had sounds of standby and then different speeds but if it's easier to record only one sound, medium to high speed (rpm?) would be best.

For me to edit the file, the most important thing is that there is a long enough slice of constant speed (rpm?).

Hi qubodup,

The sound from a Seat WRC is hard to get, just like the sound of a Mitsubishi Evo
(I had a friend who owned one, but he sold it)
I WILL go and make a recording of a Ford Focus, but dont know when......
(Im a member of the National Ford Club and maybe one of the members can help me)
Maybe you can do the same as Im doing now, try to contact someone from a club/forum that can do the recording for you.
I record all my sounds with my phone, so no need for anything special.
I really want to help you, but this is taking to much time wich I dont have sad
Or......, you need to go for the sound of another car and try to make it sound like you want....
Can you give me some feedback, and how soon you need the samples??

Hey escortmarius,

The model of the car is not crucial, the most important thing is that it 'sounds' like a modern car, rather than a truck, motorbike or old-timer. Having a model that is exactly the same as in the game would be a bonus but far from required.

I will try to record the motor of a relative's station wagon using my Zoom H2 in the near time.

What phone do you use for recording? I had an iPod touch 4g, which definitely had good quality while the HTC Wildfire (aka Buzz) that I use has horrible audio recording quality.

There is also no deadline, since it's a free time, freeware and open source project. This is cozy but lack of pressure sometimes is bad. smile

You are too kind, thanks for your eager to help!

I got the chance to record the engine of an Opel Astra 1.6_16V!

What do you think?

More sounds would still be welcome to add diversity to the space of (open source) vehicle simulation games smile

I'm searching for the good quality 3800 series 2 engine from the top manufacturers and best companies. If you have any recommendations then, please share. Thanks.
