Hello,
So I got a Rode Blimp mk2 to go with my MKE-600. Do you have any tips for storage and transport?

I'm looking at like Peli case or a Nanuk 935. I presume they would be big enough to fit it and my audio recorder and maybe a few extra mics ? Without one at hand, it's hard to imagine and consider how much extra space I want/need for foam. Or if a "photography" padding case would suffice and be able to hold the blimp in its length.

Do you have any experience and what's your tips for storing and transporting your audio equipment?

Cheers!

My new Rode Blimp 2 arrived today, for my recently acquired AT8022.

Haven't quite figured out the transport part either, so I'm all ears.

Ironically, there's no wind today whatsoever.

Cool setup! Looking forward to hearing recordings from it grin
In my experience the rode helped a lot with windnoise. Where the MKE600 even with its stock windcover would struggle on mild wind.
I'm convinced of its effectiveness personally ^^

Thanks Sadiquecat.

Yeah, the blimp is quite an expensive addition. I had to be sure that it would be effective and so watched quite a number of reviews first.

Seems to get positive feedback, and thanks for your confirmation.

Hopefully I'll be able to capture some nice sounds a bit more often in this terribly windy place.

So a rough approximation of the size id like for my Rode blimp with the deadcat windcover on (could probably take it off for transport/size saving) Is 54x24x15cm. That's kind on a minimal side of things, maybe add half a cm of margin to each side and then there's also case padding to think about

Without the deadcat, and disregarding storing it and other accessories we could probably fit it in a 49x21x12cm.
That's without unscrewing the caps and with the handle folded.
With either end unscrewed, including them in a box area it fits in a 38.5 x 24 x 12 cm interior case. (Not including wall space between the blimp and its caps, kinda hugged together, which is larger than the handle so 12cm blimp radius + 12cm cap radius.

Include extra dimensions for padding I don't know how big they ought to be but >2.5cm would sound good. So double for each side, we're looking at approximately 54x26x17cm internal space for a deadcatless blimp.

It could probably fit in a Nanuk 935, which the internal dimensions are 521x287x191mm.
Either by having a little less margin on the padding. 1.5cm of padding each side length wise.

Or by unscrewing a cap or two. Then it's a little tight if we're laying the caps flat but possible. And maybe by having them on their sides and "up" it could fit even more neatly.

Looks like this 51x28x19cm +/-1cm internal dimensions is a somewhat standard size for a carry on like case.

Note my airline mentions a 55x40x20cm carry on dimensions limit.

A bit of a chaotic info listing x')

Anyhow asking around.
The blimp is probably doesn't need protection.
I'm told a bag is good enough and it can more or less be carried like a sleeping bag strapped on a rook sack and good enough.

I'm afraid of that thin fabric getting punctured and it being squishy to not be that resistant, but I guess on the opposite soft things will just bend around damage.
And worst case scenario, I can only foresee the fabric being punctured, and it would still be functional with the deadcat over it.

Really it's a big thing and thus expensive to put it in hard-shell. The case would also bring bulk/weight.

So to what extent is it a priority?

Some flights allow pets onboard.

Just put the fur back on, and snap on a lead, and you're good to go.

But seriously; I know what you mean about the black mesh. It does appear to be quite delicate.

So far I have a concern about squashing it out of shape and the mesh becoming torn.

There's a train of thought that suggests it could be stuffed with something in order to keep the shape - like underwear, or something.

But that might raise an eyebrow or two at security.

To be honest, these hard cases seem a bit expensive. I'd probably be inclined to go for something a bit more budget, but that would probably give enough protection and still be within the size limitations. For example:

Would also be quite practical for out in the field.
