Hi
I'm looking for a omni microphone to record Impulse responses to make convolution reverbs.

I have a superlux ecm 999, but reverbs fade into the self-noise before background noise :/
I tried it against some Soundman OKM 1 (normally in ear microphone), and they do keep a longer reverb before it fades into self-noise. However they seem to distort more easily (lower spl?) and the waveform of the superlux seem more natural in contrast to the soundman's waveform of the impulse that looks squished and also "DC offset" on on the impulse.

So far, I'm heavily considering getting omni capsules for my Rode NT5 with the NT5-O.
But id like to hear other options to make sure smile

Cheers!

Hi!
Thanks a lot for the recommendation !

My thoughts of it is they seem like quality microphones!

The SPL of the clippy are 120db,
The SPL of the rode NT5 (cardioid capsules, the omni doesn't seem to present many specifications :/ so I'm assuming they are the same other than pick-up pattern) is 143db.
Sadly I don't know the SPL before distortion of my soundman okm1 for a point of reference

Another consideration I have here is I already own wind covers for the NT5. The clippy would probably require new windshields which is an added budget.

When it comes to self-noise, I'm happy with my Rode. The Superlux ECM-999's self noise is just unbearably loud, considerably louder than a Zoom recorder stock mic...

The Clippy XLR EM272Z1 seems like amazing microphones at a good price! Considering I already own the NT5 bodies and windcover, they seem like a better option for me.
Also considering this niche of popping balloons (155-168db ish) the greater SPL of the NT5 seems more in accordance with my use smile

Cheers!
