Does anybody on here use the Tascam DR60D mark II ? I don't see it mention much. What are you views on it as a field recorder for bird song etc?

Yes, I have used it lately ( http://www.freesound.org/search/?q=dobroide+tascam+dr60 ).
I got it to get a more compact rig (i.e., to leave the preamp at home), but I don't really like the way it handles low and high levels. Quite cumbersome as it's designed to be attached under a DSLR camera, for a recordist is...cumbersome. And since it literally devours batteries, now I carry both the preamp and an external power bank so... yippee!
