I use this and like it very much it is very very basic but does a lot.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I make guided meditation CD's and am right now working on subliminal CD geared for massage therapist and energy workers / healers.

Good luck!

Audacity is great and free smile. But if you want to do some more pro stuff at a very affordable price ($50 or so) get GoldWave. My friend Ghoul Detail makes all his tracks using that one - and they are very very subliminal....

You can use audacity or any multi track editor. Just record the spoken affirmations and lower their volume to almost inaudible levels and mix them in with carrier tones or music... The best tones to use are the delta and gamma brainewave patterns and fractal abstract random tones that are relaxing...

Cool Edit 96, which is still out there for free, generates brainwave sounds from samples, music or white noise, sine waves, etc...

There is also a shareware program out there called "brainwave generator" that gives you a free period to export some wav's also...

I tried experimenting with subliminal tracks on cassettes 20 years ago but never got any results... My theory is that hearing your own affirmations in your own voice has got to be more convincing and have a stronger subconcious effect. good luck!

If by subliminal messages (a la the post about "subliminal sounds"wink, then I don't know what to say... But if you mean subliminal effects, try <http://brain.web-us.com/binaural.htm> for background info/research, <http://www.greatdreams.com/hertz.htm> as a reference sheet (of sorts), and the program SBaGen <http://uazu.net/sbagen/> for generating sounds.

SBaGen employs binaural beats (check out the pages above for more info), can generate or incorporate white/pink noise (your lower pitched vocals, nature sounds, or classical music), is highly and easily scriptable, comes with lots of demos and a nice GUI, is available for all the major OSes, and is 100% free.

Otherwise, any program that generates specific frequencies can theoretically be used to "subliminally" massage a listener's brainwaves into a desired pattern.
