Hi everybody,

has anybody had the chance to try this microphone? The data is just like that of the Audio Technica AT 825, with the difference, that the price is s.th. like EUR 59,00.

For the factsheet please use this link: http://www.superlux.com.tw/en/pdf/E523HPA_E.pdf

It would be great to compare both!

Hi inchadney,

I have an AT825 and looking at the specification sheet I agree it looks very similar, if not identical to the E523. The frequency response graph however is very different. There is very significant roll off starting from roughly 15000hz with a -12dB frequency response at 20000Hz on the Superlux that the AT825 does not have. Same thing at the low end as of 200 Hz and further down. Response is a lot flatter on the AT825. Of course one has to hear it to know how this will end up on a recording. Hope this helps a bit already.

Hey there,

I just bought this mic and would love to write a review, if someone could tell me what i should do (record and test), so it would be interesting for the people here to read.
I have very advanced knowledge in making computer based music, but this is my first attempt to record in stereo outside the grey box, so i'm a noob concering that.
My setup would be a soundcraft "Compact 4" mixing desk and a M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 audio-interface or a Cowon X5 mp3-player, which is capable of recording uncompressed wav with up to 88khz sampling rate through line-in (though i still do not know if the build-in pre-amplification of the microphone would be loud enough for line-in).
So to cut a long story short, if someone would provide me a proper tutorial, I would do a review of the mic with sound samples and stuff, though it could take two or three weeks, because i'm busy in the university.

Hi, I have the Superlux that i use for stereo ambient sounds. It has very good audio quality and the only problem I find is if I am recording very quiet outdoor sounds the self noise is a bit annoying. However for the price I can't complain and a lot of this self noise can be greatly reduced by using a 32band eq in edit. (I use Logic on MacBook Pro late 2013)
The self noise is a bit less when using phantom power rather than battery.

Bit about myself: I make short films and documentary (Amateur..very !!)
My gear is Zoom H8, Sennheiser MKE 600 Mic, Behringer B-5 Condenser Mics (very quiet and great for indoor dialogue) I have also used these for stereo outdoor ambience placed inside my Rode Blimp.
Sony PXW-X70 4k Camcorder.
The XY Capsule on the H8 is also excellent for outdoor ambience with wind protection.
