I've downloaded the .wav files, but I'm having problems finding a easy to use software for XP...

what kind of programs?

I think there called Trackers, basically I would like to compose my own original beats to remix with other songs, but I've tried a few trackers and they have errors because they are running on Dos, also has anyone tried composing on a PPC and would recommend it?

PC/computer composing/recording is the future, well of recording/composing and etc. at least. DOS is most definately the past. You'd do well to look at sites and/or buy magazines from:

Most if not all of the main sequencer/tracker producing companies such as Steinberg, Cakewalk and Ableton provide free downloadable demos of their flagship software. Companies like Mackie provide good quality free software with products such as the Spike. There's also plenty of freeware 'wave editors', 'music/audio sequencers' and 'audio trackers' out there.

There are some free trackers designed to run on modern machines like MilkyTracker (FastTracker2 Clone, Crossplatform) and Modplug (Windows).

Here are some of the other assorted free audio creation/editing tools I've come across (taken from a post I made on another board):

• Audacity (multi-track digital audio workstation. Good for sound editing) and Ardour (looks wicked but I find it to be crashy on OSX at this stage.)
  
• Rosegarden and BEAST, if you have Linux.
  
• SawCutter for windows (has a synthesizer and built-in sequencer, but can't import midi- at least for the free version).
  
• Free VST Synths/Effects that can be used with a Free VST Host (check out all those links!)
