Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask for some clarification on something. I’ve been contributing a lot of sounds to the Freesound community under Creative Commons, and I’m very happy to be part of a platform that values sharing and creativity. While I am not expecting any donations, I do feel that some users might appreciate the option to show support if they enjoy and regularly use the sounds I’ve provided.

With that in mind, I was wondering: am I allowed to post cryptocurrency wallet addresses (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) in my profile bio as a voluntary donation option?

Again, I want to emphasize that I’m not trying to commercialize my content or break any community guidelines — I fully understand that Freesound is built around open sharing. This would simply be there as an optional way for people who feel inclined to give back, but with absolutely no expectation attached.

Before making any changes to my profile, I wanted to ask the community and moderators if this would be acceptable within Freesound’s terms of service and community standards.

Thank you for your time and for maintaining such a great platform!

Hey. Thanks for being a part of the community of contributors!

There's nothing in the Terms of Use that prohibits sharing your own donation channels, many have done it over the years. I think the currency is kind of irrelevant, so if it's via crypto doesn't really matter as long as it's legit.

The only thing that's forbidden is spamming. So if it's a subtle thing on your profile, fine. But I would recommend avoiding doing it in your forum signature or in comments or messages as this will get flagged.

All the best...

Understood. Thanks again for the clarification. I have made a very lengthy profile bio about my history of making samples, and I put my ERC-20/Ethereum crypto address at the very end.

Also, I hate it when people spam too, so you have my word on that.
