Hey there,
Today 2025 06 07 my account is 10 years old
I got into Freesound as there were cinematography lessons at a youth club and I loved video editing and did the sound design of one of our movies.
Around 2021, I got more serious about music production, I dabbled with FL studio before but never really went anywhere, a friend that goes by LoGo invited me over and showed me workflow and we made a track together
(Here's one of my favourite track they made in collaboration with another internet friend https://youtu.be/UXmp4xYuKiA?si=fsZJyotvTfE2aqbT )
That really boosted my confidence when I went back home, I made my first track that I'm proud of, "Cat Stride In Wet Grass" https://youtu.be/w5aqohuNOGU?si=6zLWv0GumqnceaFv
Shortly after, 2021 03 24 I got a sampler, the Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator PO-33 K.O
I looked for some pre-made kits ready to sample here, but didn't find any, so I made my own (One sound file, that would be chopped at the transients to slice up into 16 sounds)
https://freesound.org/people/Sadiquecat/sounds/565821/ Here's a track made with that pack/sounds : https://youtu.be/59MEZBczXQM?si=9sCC_waqIV0XswuL
Here's another drum pack I frequently use https://freesound.org/people/Sadiquecat/sounds/565860/
I already wanted to give back, my objective was to give back a sound for every sound I downloaded, but I never really got round to it, sharing those sounds kind of unlocked my uploading sounds.
I shared a few things here and there, but in March 2024, an Admin contacted me saying " [...] It looks like you're very consistent with safe material with good descriptions and tags, so I'm just writing to let you know that I whitelisted your account [...]" . I had just shared my first pack with 330 Ukulele samples, it must have been easier to just whitelist me rather than deal with each ticket lol (Joking)
With that was a offer to become a moderator, which I accepted
It's a honour and it made me feel and at home on this website, making me want to contribute even more be it on the forum, sound uploads, ticket moderation, and moderator discussions.
I was also in the works of a WD-40 sample pack (I found a lack of cool WD-40 sounds here so decided to fix that... By memeing and sampling it every way I could imagine, resulting in 567 uploads lol) so I definitely found work to do
Fast forwards 2025, with the 2024 in numbers https://blog.freesound.org/?p=2141 , I saw I was top 3 uploader and had shared 1337 sounds in that year. That's more than 3 sounds a day average for a year! (Mostly thanks to the ukulele and WD-40 packs)
That motivated me to carry on with that average in 2025! An objective for this year is to upload more than 1095 sounds. (Which I have already succeeded with 1,178 sounds 😎)
There's something really meaningful to me in field-recording, I like to "preserve" stuff, Around 2019 or so I digitalised my family tree, and family photos, did some audio interviews with the elderly family members. In which I found old aerial photos, so September 2022 I got a Dji Mavic mini 2 and took a lot of images/videos of villages. Trying to do a A/B comparison, I plan to give a hard-drive to the town halls of each village further down the line. I imagine it will be very valuable 30-50 years from now to see "this is how the village was".
Sadly drone regulations means I have to be far away, and now having moved to a city I can't fly it anymore so that hobby is lost :/
But with all those hobbies, field-recording is one that comes easy and I default to having free time
That's a bit of where I'm from
Now, I'm looking forwards to hit 3k uploads, 100k downloads on my sounds, 300 sounds download per day average, and maybe hopefully, 5 sounds uploaded in average in 2025! (So 1825 sounds in the year I'm 65% there and it's only half way though the year >)
Gear wise,
I really need acoustic treatment, the reverb in my room is horrible. I won't be able to do much sound isolation wise (so people in the street/cars will remain an issue, but I can record at night)
Id like to complete my kit with quality omnidirectional mics, a shotgun mic, and large diaphragm. But I'm very happy with my Rode NT5!
Most importantly, project wise, Id like to do a full NPC voice acting pack, a voice message pack, more french words /sentences / voice acting, general ambience between friends, and continue recording random objects I find and some geo-tagged field recordings, a bunch of sentences for AI voice training following this guide https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/speech-service/record-custom-voice-samples .
A distant project would be a car samplepack.
So that's a few things on my mind.
Tonight with some friends, we're going to a Chinese all you can eat buffet, guess that will be a celebration for my 10years here
Cheers!
Happy to have you here.
It’s crazy to think I’ve been on here for over a decade, dedicating so much of my time and energy to this one site.
I’ve met many people, and had countless emotional moments creating sounds and being inspired by the work of others.
I love Freesound. And for what it’s worth, timeline wise, I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s been a great decade sharing my time and admiration here.
Here’s to another decade... if we can make it, I’ll see you there!
