Hello everyone. Somehow this thread never really gained traction so in the off chance that this revives it I'm going to say my favourite movie is either Top Gun Maverick or John Wick. I know they're both kind of "obvious" picks but I like them and I especially like how John Wick was made by relatively inexperienced people, small budget, and still became one of the greatest action movies ever. I also love fighter jets so that's my reason for Top Gun (both movies). Anyway, that's me. Goodbye!

Hi! Since there is such a topic. Not exactly on time, of course. I want to say that I really liked the movie MAD GOD, which was shot by the well-known master of frame-by-frame animation Phil Tippett. It's far from mainstream cinema, and there are a lot of disgusting shots, but for those who appreciate the aesthetics of a gloomy atmosphere, it's a must. Stunning soundtrack by Dan Wool and sound design by Richard Beggs. The degree of visual performance increases especially in the second half of the film, where the picture is increasingly fueled by excellent sound design and music.

Yes. I was just fascinated by this movie. Sam, I think you should like this.

You have good taste in movies haha.
Mad God is such an interesting, creative movie and it is like if you took Robot Chicken but made it a dark gory artistic genre of a movie. I love it.

My all time favorite movies has always been The Fifth element, 2nd, The Mummy, 3rd, Pan's Labyrinth

Thanks! Oh yeah. The film is the Fifth Element, definitely in my collection. I watched the Mummy many times in my youth. But now, probably because of my age, the Mummy is not so good for me anymore. By the way, there's an amazing musical score. I also remember being surprised that the sound engineer managed to convey the amazing depth of the scene in the recording of this music. Very few films have been made on this topic. At one time, I wish there were more of them.

@Erokia i'm curious what aspects of The Mummy you enjoy so much as it's your 2nd favourite movie of all time ? smile

I remember liking it as kid, but for me it doesn't have the 'timelessness' of many other films of the 90s era that I could re-watch periodically, for instance The Matrix from the same year (which incidentally is my favourite in the sci-fi/fantasy genre). Just thinking about it, I reckon the 90s was the best decade for movies. Maybe i'm a bit biased, but I really do believe that objectively.

Definitely say the part where they open up the sarcophagus and say the following "he's..still..still, juicy" lol

I don't disagree with you about movies in the 90s being objectively better.
During those years, technology was getting better and better each year and so was film.
Not sure why or how the movies back then were so much better, I'd say its because it was honestly before the internet was in everyone's hands, or atleast not as it is today I mean.

I like to believe the people that made movies back then did it because they genuinely loved making movies and not the diarrhea cash grab movies we get today.
Same could be said for video games too.

Everything just felt real, fresh, not overly sold.

Wow. That was a very poignant description. You're absolutely right, and it's kind of devastating that we've regressed so much.

I also like to look at the times we live to be as if the tech and gadgets they had in the 20's to be as much of a shock to them as it is to us now in the new 20's.
For sure, everyone in the 20's had their gripes about new stuff ruining the old just as much as we do now.
Can either embrace the weird new stuff... ahmm..AI... COUGH cough. we live in or let it drive its own path which evitable everything one way or another does.. Its for the new generation to enjoy I guess, now I know why boomers are so angry all the time lol.

That's definitely noticed. About timelessness. Damn, for me, The Matrix is also my favorite movie of this genre. I remember coming out of the cinema feeling like you'd been hit on the head with something heavy. I didn't want to return to reality))). This picture made such a strong impression at that time that I digested it for a long time while I was walking home. What can I say. A masterpiece. This is the case when all the lines converge where they should. It's still one of my favorite movies. And it doesn't fade with time. Yes. I also agree that the 90s were the best time for cinema.

Yes. It's a funny moment.

Yes. That's a good question. Along with the creative passion, fueled perhaps by the emergence of new, previously unseen technologies, I dare say that they were probably paid better at that time than they are now. The general trend towards so-called optimization leaves its destructive mark here too.

By the way. I recently watched an interesting video about remasters of films and scans from 35mm films. It's a very interesting look. Who's interested https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQwQRFLFDd8

Fascinating! Coincidentally a few weeks ago I was watching the video about oblivion by the same guy.
