http://www.penguinremixed.co.uk - a competition (only open to UK residents?) to remix audiobook samples from Penguin, along with your own original (or otherwise non-copyright infringing) content. Presumably, composers could combine samples from Freesound with these audiobook samples to create valid competition entries. I certainly plan to enter.

That would depend on the licence the remixes would be entered with, there usually becoming copyright of the organisers in such cases, which would probably mean you cant use freesound samples unless penquin atrributes the creator of the freesound according to the cc licence...(which would be doubtfull)

Hmmm. Good point! I'll check their site (and contact if necessary) to see whether CC and attribution is any good.

obviously you can always contact owners of any of the sounds you wanna use and ask them whether you may use it on their terms...

i had a look at the licence for the signing of the competition:

By entering this competition each entrant confirms that his/her entry is their wholly-owned creation and to the extent that such entry makes use of any third party materials that these have been fully cleared for possible inclusion in an audio book for world wide distribution, unless they are no longer protected by copyright or other intellectual property rights. Entrants will keep Penguin harmless from any claims in relation to their entry that the entry infringes the personal or proprietary right of any other person. By submitting a track, an entrant grants to Penguin a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to edit, publish, make available and distribute the tract throughout the world on the penguinremixed website, the Penguin website and any Penguin media now known or hereafter invented.

this would indeed mean that you cant use freesound samples without clearing it with the CC holder first.
