instead of commenting on each sound, i thought i would post here. all of your sounds are really nice; especially for those looking for realistic, unprocessed, well recorded sound effects. well done, and thank you!

actually edwin_p_manchester, a lot of your sounds are certainly accurate enough where i don't think it would be improper to apply tags of exactly what you recorded. for instance, your flash sound was so identifiable as a sound that comes from a camera, that i added the tag 'camera' to it.

thanks for the kind words! i'm still getting used to the tagging process and am a little uncertain about how broad the tags should be. i got an email from bram regarding this and was just going back to add a little more when i saw a post with my name. i'm going to do some searching and check out other people's tags and try to see what i can do better.

[edit] also, i'm using these sounds primarily for their psuedo-percussive qualities, and as a result i tend to fade the ends of the sounds. i was thinking today about other applications for the sounds, like foley work or something, and how if that's what i was doing i'd much rather deal with the sound in a rawer form. does anyone have any thoughts on this?

only that you are correct in my opinion smile

when i am thinking about what sounds to upload, i kind have an all-or-nothing approach. that is, i try upload either unaltered recordings or sounds that are processed so much that they are essentially new creations. like if i have a loop of some bugs outside, and i think it sounds cool with some chorus and a little reverb, then i just upload the sound unprocessed. i figure if someone wants to add a little dsp they can do that themselves, and it is best to just give the raw audio. but that isn't a rule or anything, just my personal mode of operation.

hey nic & edwin

yeah, raw sounds are the way to go.
afterwards you can always upload a "remixed" version of the sound...

processed sounds are mostly interesting when you want to use a sound in a specific way. Envelope effects are quite "omi" though. Image how it would be if you had uploaded all your one-hit samples with heavy flanging and phasing effects on them - as an extreme example.

cheers,

- Bram
