Not sure if this question goes here, in fact I'm not totally sure of what my question is, but here goes.

I'm looking to get a transition between songs in a video I'm doing where the only audio are the songs so good transition are important. Anyway, the transition I'm trying to get is the sound you would get if audio were to be gradually slowed down and then shut off, such as a projector or tape would make as the reels stop. I would describe it as sound melting.

I would assume it deals with slowing the audio down gradually with the naturally accompaning pitch shift.

I think that describes what I'm looking for, cause I can hear what I'm looking for in my head, just can't get it to sound.

You might be able to do this easily depending on your video editing software (please say what it is). Another option is to use an external audio editor.

I'd normally reccomend audacity, but I'm not sure if it can do variable speed slides like you want. Someone might know of a free VST plugin that would do this for you.

I'm using Avid Free DV, doesn't much in the way of audio.

Yeah I was searching through Audacity for something like that, but couldn't come up with anything other than saving the loop in different rates and pitches and trying to blend them. Didn't come out so hot, but then again I didnt spend much time on it.

I use Sony Vegas and it has a Pitch adjuster that can either affect the time or not affect the time. When you have it set to affect the time it has the end result you're describing - a reel of tape slowing down to nothing.

If you have a VST host, like Cubase, then you could try TurntablistPro from Bioroid.

It is a fantastic free plugin for both Mac and PC. The blurb on the website says...

'TTP is a VSTi that can load a sample and perform turntable style effects on it. You can scratch, change pitch, and even spin the audio up and down just like on a real turntable.'

...and it does just that - it is fantastic and free!

How to create that sound:

Soundforge> pitch shift> drag line down at end>make sure "keep original length" is not marked, repeat until it sounds as you wish, then:

make a copy of the sound(ctrl+A,ctrl+C, ctrl+N, ctrl+V)>open a EQ>drag down the bass frequencies pretty much>select all (ctrl+A)> fade in.

go back to original track>fade out>mix (ctrl+M) mix at normal levels.

Now you have a nice "melt" and the bass that grows in the end wont kill the sub

It's from memory, but should work for you if you fiddle about a bit.
