I'm not sure what category to put this under, but just wanted to say thank you to whoever runs this site, and thank you to the community. I've been using this website for many years and absolutely love it! It's great for a game dev hobbyist like me that doesn't earn much.
I plan to donate to the site one of these days as soon as I can afford it. I got laid off from my job recently due to the tariffs, but have an interview in a few days. Wish me luck :]
Good luck to you man! Well done.
Hey, thank you very much for your message!
As someone who contributes to the site, it's always rewarding to hear how people use Freesound and how useful it is to people!
It's what drives me as a volunteer sound uploader and moderator, contributing to people's projects and feeling useful to society.
Donations are surely a great way to give back to the website!
But there's a few other great ways to contribute too!
-Leaving an open letter like you did. And contributing to the forum and its discussions is in my opinion livening up the community and sharing back.
-Leaving comments as simple as "Thank you" or even better "I used your sound in X project" is incredibly rewarding to creators and a good reminder that all the time spent recording, editing and describing is work that contributes to actual people and their project. I love hearing when a sound is used in music, games, videos, theatres etc...
-Of course, another prominent way to give back, is to share sounds! (As you already did ) Even with a phone! there's been great sounds recorded with a phone. It can be voice acting, saying expressions or common phrases in one's language/culture, foley/objects, a local park or street (geo-tagged and date/time is cool
), or sharing remixes of sounds we downloaded and processed, or mixed a few together.
Best of luck for your interview!
And don't hesitate to share your games
Cheers!
